KALAMAZOO, MI – November 25, 2019 – Upon learning that God’s Kitchen of Michigan had cancelled their free Thanksgiving dinner due to lack of funding, Honor Credit Union team members banned together to donate $1,500 to the non-profit organization to continue the tradition.

On November 19, Honor team members read an article published by MLive.com announcing that God’s Kitchen of Michigan was cancelling their Kalamazoo location’s free Thanksgiving dinner due to lack of funding. The team immediately came together to answer the question, “What can we do to help?”

Amber Duncan, Honor’s Community Assistant Vice President for the Greater Kalamazoo Area, reached out to Reverend William Stein, co-founder and chairman of the non-profit, and learned that a donation of $1,500 would be enough to provide the free Thanksgiving dinner to 900 community members who would otherwise go without.

The following evening, Duncan surprised Rev. Stein with a check for $1,500 while he and his staff served families at their weekly Wednesday dinner. The group typically offers a free meal on Monday and Wednesday nights, but recently had to cut back to only Wednesday. “It is truly incredible to see the number of people and hungry children that all benefit from the soup kitchen,” Duncan reflected. “My heart was overflowing as I presented the check. Because of the community donations they’ve received, God’s Kitchen will now be able to serve these families on Monday nights into December and provide them with free Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.”

The 2019 Thanksgiving Dinner will be held at 1000 West Patterson Street in Kalamazoo and is free and open to the public. For more information on God’s Kitchen of Michigan, visit www.godskitchenofmichigan.org.
